Fun Thanksgiving Decorations That Make Your Holiday Special

Thanksgiving is a time in which we remember the people in our lives that are special to us. This year take the time to decorate your home in honor of this very special holiday.

You can show your friends and family just how much they mean to you this Thanksgiving season. Here are a few decorations that will make this Thanksgiving one that will be remembered for many years to come.

Make your Thanksgiving table a thing of beauty with a table runner with gold, browns, or burnt orange colors. Emboss the table runner with stamps in fruit and nut shapes or use iron-on decals to decorate your table runner.

Buy several pillar candles in one solid color and place each on silk fall leaves. Group your candles in various heights and place a few nuts or small gourds at the base of the candles for a special fall look.

Decorate your Thanksgiving buffet table with fresh fruits, vegetables, and nuts in brass or silver bowls and baskets. You can also use artificial fruits and vegetables if you want to keep your beautiful buffet table in place for several weeks or the entire month.

Make garlands from leaves, fruits, berries, and fall colored ribbons to hang from doorways and any place you would normally hang a Christmas garland. You can also purchase bundles of wheat and tie wide, wire-edged ribbon around the center and hang from your fireplace and on doors.

Make place cards for every member of the family and any other visitors you may be entertaining and include a note to each written inside the place card of why you are thankful for that person and what they mean in your life. Your guests and family members will be touched by your thoughtfulness and the effort you made to make them feel special.

Think of all the places you decorate with reds and greens at Christmas and instead place fall colors and Thanksgiving decorations that you can purchase in your local discount or hobby store. These simple ideas will transform your house and make your guests thankful for you.

The Flea Market Can Help When Redecorating

Is the decoration of your house stuck in some bygone era? Do friends who visit your house suggest you do some redecorating in your home? Then maybe you should consider changing the appearance of your home.

As a homemaker, your hands full when it comes to budgeting. There are just so many household expenses that often the upkeep of the home is put on the backburner.

What every homemaker must realize is that redecorating need not cost an arm and a leg. Sometimes all a person needs is a little creativity and a visit to a flea market.

That’s right! Flea markets are a good place to explore to find inexpensive home furnishings and decor. Some of the things that you can get from flea markets are draperies, carpets and rugs. These items often cost hundreds even thousands of dollars in home stores; but in flea markets, they can be had purchased for just a few dollars. When choosing draperies, carpets and rugs, be sure to buy solid colors that would blend with the color scheme of your home.

Other home items that you can buy from flea markets are toiletries, towels, shower curtains, soap dishes, etc. for just a fraction of a price of the same item found in retail stores. One good thing about flea markets is that you can often buy these items in bulk. A tip to use when purchasing toiletries is to buy them in sets rather than individual pieces which will save money in the long run. Buying in sets also ensures that the items match each other.

Bedding is another item that you can purchase at flea markets for very affordable prices. Blankets, comforters, pillows and pillow cases, blankets, bed sheets, etc. are readily available. When buying bedding, remember to buy those that will match the color of your bed and bedroom. Buy beddings in colors so that they can be mixed and matched with other items.

Bedding and toiletries are just two examples of the many household items that you can buy at flea markets. Many flea markets even carry items like ready-to-assemble furniture including tables, chairs, bookshelves, etc. This type of furniture is ideal for starter homes and apartments.

Always remember that in decorating your home you have better options than the large stores.

Indoor Gardening

Plants are just as popular as furniture when one is deciding on furniture and soft furnishings. Aside from the aesthetic value plants provide your home with, there are also health benefits - grade school science class tells us that plants cleanse the air through utilizing the carbon dioxide and producing more oxygen. Here is some important information on how to care for your indoor plants to gain the optimum health and aesthetic benefits.

Lighting

Most indoor plants need good lighting. You can provide this through natural lighting in the room of your choice or there must be electric lighting. Darker leaved plants usually don’t need as much light as others.

Here are the varieties of plants (usually those that only require medium to low light) that are known to be suitable for indoor gardening:

a. Philodendrons
b. Boston ferns
c. African violets
d. Cyclamens
e. Creeping Fig

Watering

A common mistake most people make in indoor gardening is they tend to over-water the plants, which may lead to rotting roots. Make sure to research the type of plant you have, because each kind of plant varies on their watering needs.

Potting

Choose good quality and attractive container for your indoor plants. Make sure that the pot is clean before placing your new plant into it to prevent infection and to encourage healthy growth.

Humidity

In indoor gardening, humidity is a big issue. The amount of moisture in the air has effect on the growth of the plants. During mornings, you could spray the plants with water for their much-needed moisture. Make sure the leaves don’t get covered in dust.

Fertilization

Just like watering, fertilizing depends on the type of plant. If you have managed to supply your indoor garden with the right amount of light, water and humidity, fertilization may not need much attention. A good indoor fertilizer can be bought from most home depot or hardware stores. Orchids need the special fertilizer available.
